Sashiko

Le sashiko (刺し子, litt.

Customer video review of Indigo-Dyed Sashiko Work Jacket

Video says it all, but mainly a beautiful coat! Well made, fits true to size with a bit of room for layering. BE AWARE: you will need to wash/soak this multiple times to reduce chances of crocking (dye transfer). Yes, indigo will bleed, I’ve been involved with raw and/or loomstate denim for a long time. But this is on another level. 3rd wash is coming this weekend and hoping that will be the last to get this to a wearable state. Check out the video, I explain it a bit further. Still happy with the coat and will continue to enjoy it!

Store owner replied: Thanks for such a thoughtful review and for sharing the video! We’re glad you’re enjoying the coat and that the fit and construction worked well for you. We really appreciate your insights on the indigo and crocking, especially given your experience with raw denim. We hope the next wash gets things to a more comfortable place.

Customer photo review of Indigo-Dyed Sashiko Work Jacket

Having looked at comments on line it seems that many customers share my disappointment that you fail to give adequate warning to the shortcomings of indigo died clothes that have not been treated ahead of wearing. It is so unprofessional to send an item like this that when unwrapped leaves hands, other cloths and our white sofa stained with indigo dye. How possibly can this be part of your customer strategy? It is senseless. There should be a warning label on the polythene container. "Please be aware that on opening some of the dye will come off from the item of clothing so protect hands and furniture.".

Store owner replied: Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re very sorry to hear about the issues you encountered when opening the package, and we understand the inconvenience this caused. Your feedback regarding clearer warnings and packaging has been taken seriously and shared with our team for review and improvement.

The Jacket was great but it came with a chemical smell and when my partner tried it on blue dye went all over his hands and clothes. We hand washed the jacket and a lot of dye came out of it, we proceeded to cold rinse it a few times and hung it out to dry. Since then the dye still goes on my partners hands when he puts them in the pockets and the stength of the dark blue has faded. Its a real shame because the style of the jacket is very nice.

Store owner replied: We’re very sorry for the inconvenience. Indigo-dyed fabrics can naturally release some color, especially at first, but we understand how frustrating this level of color transfer can be. We really appreciate your feedback and will continue improving our dye-setting process in future production to reduce excessive fading and transfer while preserving the character of the indigo finish.

I ordered a size medium, love the look and fabric, I washed it twice until the dye stopped bleeding , but, It fits snug in the shoulders, I'm 5'8, 158 lbs. and the jacket around the stomach mid section is huge, proportionaly wrong, far from fitted and modern hip looking, maybe I need a small.... but I washed it, I dried it hoping it would shrink down, If I got a small I know the cotton would stretch in the shoulders, and the mid section would probably fit proper, but do I really have to spend another $100 plus dollars and washing it twice just to get a jacket that fits??? It'd be really nice if you guys sent a size small replacement.

Store owner replied: Thank you for sharing such a detailed review. We’re glad you appreciate the design and fabric, and we’re sorry the fit wasn’t quite what you expected. We truly appreciate your feedback on the shoulder room and body silhouette. As the jacket has already been washed and dried, we’re unable to arrange a size exchange for this item, but we understand your concerns and will continue improving both our products and after-sales support to provide a better experience for our customers.

The fit is great, xxl fits 48 inch chest, 38 waist. I had to wash/rinse the coat 4-5 times to dilute the indigo. The authentic wear pattern of indigo denim will be nice. The fit is like a heavy canvas Navy issue peacoat.

Indigo-Dyed Sashiko Work Jacket

Store owner replied: Thank you for sharing such detailed feedback! We’re glad to hear the fit worked well for you, and we really appreciate you sharing your sizing reference. Indigo fading is a natural characteristic of this fabric, and with time and wear, the garment will develop a unique patina and character of its own. We love that you appreciate the authentic aging process of denim. Thanks again for sharing your experience!

Dye bleed is overwhelming, and the garment will likely test your patience and your ability to efficiently remove the blue staining from your hands. Never the less, the actual jacket is quite nice. The measurements listed on the website accurately reflect the size of the jacket. If you are an indigo expert or just a patient and determined buyer then I think you'll probably really like this jacket.

Store owner replied: Thanks for sharing your experience! Glad you’re enjoying the jacket and the fit. Indigo garments naturally bleed a bit, but we appreciate your feedback and will consider ways to make it easier for customers in the future.

Decently made jacket, seems like a quality product, but you can't even touch it without dye coming off on your hands and clothing. I've rinsed it four times now and dye is still leeching out of it. I can't wear it for fear of ruining all my clothes with blue dye. I guess I'll have to go out and try to buy a dye fixative so I can actually get some use out of it. It's unfortunate because aside from the poor dye finish it seems like a quality product.

Store owner replied: Thanks for taking the time to share this. Indigo fabrics can release some excess dye early on, but we understand this feels excessive. We’d recommend a separate cold wash before wearing, and we’ll share this with our product team for a closer look. Feel free to reach out if you need help.

Great Jacket! Very well made!

Store owner replied: Thanks for sharing! We’re thrilled you’re happy with the jacket’s craftsmanship.

It fits really well. The color is as it was described. Only problem is, that the jacket bleeds a lot. My hands were completely blue and it was really sticking to my fingers l had to wash it twice, but now it ok.

Store owner replied: Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re glad to hear the fit and color met your expectations. Indigo-dyed garments can release excess dye before the first few washes, which can cause color transfer. We appreciate your patience and are glad to know it’s working well now. We’ll continue improving our care guidance and labeling.

This coat is FANTASTIC. I took the advice of another review, soaked it in warm water and added some vinegar and salt to set the color a bit and then washed in cold water. So far no bleeding issues. The quality is fantastic, a beautiful and structural coat with great color and texture. Sizing - I’m about 5’10”, 36 jeans and a 46 blazer/sportcoat and the XL fits me perfectly.

Purchased this item, and firstly it's a great weight, fantastic design, can't wait to wear it. Here's the problem, you have to seal the indigo dye yourself. I tried their recommendation, and I was still getting a significant amount of dye on my hands. I had to repeat the process a few times and then use a different sealer to work (I think). I still have not worn the item yet, but it looks great! Their disclaimer I sense is just to say they had a disclaimer. I'm not sure why they don't seal it themselves. I have other Indigo dyed items that do not stain and were sealed before I purchased. Great design, but purchase at your own risk and time. It will take some time to seal and dry the jacket.

Indigo-Dyed Sashiko Work Jacket

Store owner replied: Thank you for your feedback. We sincerely appreciate your recognition of the jacket's cut, fabric, and design—it means a great deal to our team. At the same time, we fully understand the trouble you encountered during seal the indigo dye process. It indeed requires extra time and patience, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. The question you raised about why we don't seal it is completely reasonable. Currently, some indigo-dyed products are left for customers to perform the final color-setting themselves, based on their frequency of use and personal preference, to preserve the unique layered hues and evolving character of the dye over time. However, we completely understand that this may not meet every customer's expectations. Your feedback is invaluable, and we have already forwarded it to our product team. We will evaluate the possibility of offering a pre-seal version as an option to better cater to the diverse needs of our customers. Once again, thank you for your patience and feedback.

Love it.

I bought this jacket as a gift. It looks sturdy and well made. The material is a little stiff. I am however disappointed that this jacket is sold without the company doing the process of soaking it in salt water, hand washing, and steaming or etc. to get the structure back into the jacket before they sell it. It is not possible to wear it before you do this. I have only taken it out of the package to inspect it twice. The dye from this process got all over my hands and anything it touched. To do this soaking process so that hopefully the dye will not continue to get on everything it touches I am going to need a stainless steel receptacle large enough. My sink is porcelain-as well as obviously my tub-and I don’t want to stain them blue. I understand this is a special dye process, however when I purchased this it was not made clear the lengths it was going to take to wear it.

Store owner replied: Thank you for your detailed feedback, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused. The color transfer you experienced is characteristic of natural indigo dye, though we understand the importance of pretreatment and clear communication for your preparation. We have taken note of your suggestions and will improve product descriptions going forward, as well as consider including care instruction cards with indigo-dyed items to help customers better handle initial care. We are continuously working to enhance the product experience and truly appreciate your patience and understanding.

The product I purchased stains very easily. I did not expect such a reaction. Touching the material causes severe staining of the hands.

Indigo-Dyed Sashiko Work Jacket

Store owner replied: We’re very sorry for the inconvenience caused by the indigo transfer. This is a natural characteristic of indigo-dyed fabrics, especially in the early stages, and we understand how unexpected and frustrating it can be. We’ve recently updated our care instructions for indigo products to help prevent staining and ensure a better wearing experience. At the same time, we’re working to improve how we present and explain indigo characteristics on our product pages. Thank you for your understanding — your feedback helps us improve.

Delivery time was quicker than I expected. This is a serious work jacket. Due to the indigo dye process, I hand washed and rinsed it. It does bleed. The description online says it’s machine washable. The tag say’s hand wash at 30 Celsius. Very attractive jacket. Will look further into indigo dyed products.

Indigo-Dyed Sashiko Work Jacket

Great jacket and customer service. I was a bit unsure at first of the website but they delivered in all ways. Hopefully it will hold up to washing when it comes time for that. But initial impressions are excellent. Keep up the great work!
